The classic blue suit
You can’t go wrong with a slim-fitting blue suit. Just like your trusty indigo jeans, it goes with everything. Invest wisely and it’ll not only see you through all your spring/summer wedding engagements, it’ll also serve you for your working week and the weekend too.
Blue is the most versatile suit shade (less severe than black and less nine-‘til-five than grey). Shoes-wise, it can be worn with classic black and tan brogues, colourful summer-ready deck shoes, boxfresh white trainers – whatever floats your footwear boat.
When it comes to your shirt and tie combo, the blue suit will complement everything you have in mind. Or how about a pristine white tee? That’s your casual look sorted, too.
This three-piece suit caught our eye in Remus Uomo. The addition of the waistcoat gives you even more styling options, depending on the wedding’s dress code.
Our pick: Tapered fit micro-check wool-rich suit jacket, £179, Remus Uomo; Tapered fit micro-check wool-rich mix and match suit trouser, £90, Remus Uomo; Tapered fit micro-check wool-rich mix and match suit waistcoat, £60, Remus Uomo
How to wear it for a smart wedding
While a pristine white shirt is always a good shout, we’ve opted for a pale blue shade instead. It’s equally as smart, but it feels that little more stylish when paired with a tonal navy spotty tie. Seek out a double-cuff shirt, as you can then add some statement cufflinks that’ll peak out under your jacket. Black leather monk shoes finish off the look.
Our picks: Slim fit double cuff non-iron shirt, £30, Next; Signature textured spot tie, £18, Next; Montblanc stainless steel black onyx cufflinks, £160, Ernest & Jones – order online and try in store; Dune Piramid monk shoes, £110, Debenhams – order online and try in store
How to wear it for a smart-casual wedding
Ditch the waistcoat if you want to look more casual. Blue and blush pink is a great colour combination, so reach for a dusky pink shirt. Add some interest with a bold stripe tie in a similar colourway. Ditch the polished black leather shoes and instead pop on some tan suede loafers for a more relaxed feel. Retro round sunglasses add that cool finishing touch.
Our picks: Collection Luxury pure cotton tailored fit shirt, £45, Marks & Spencer; Collection striped tie, £9.50, Marks & Spencer; metal sunglasses, £19.99, Zara; Code Step suede loafers, £99, Clarks
The perfect fitting suit
Finding the right suit is just part of looking sharp. It also needs to fit you perfectly. Don’t bother ordering online – you need to head in centre and try on a few sizes. The jacket shoulders should neither extend or fall short of your own shoulders; it should be slim fitting around your body but not pulling; sleeves should not extend beyond your wrists; and the jacket length should not cover your bottom completely. Trousers wise, hem length is everything: you want it touching the top of your shoe.
