Silverburn is proud to be part of the community of South-West Glasgow and as such we strive to support our local community. Within Silverburn, 85% of employees are from the local area, 8% of job opportunities were given to people previously unemployed. Silverburn work closely with the Department of Works and Pensions to support local people into employment within the centre, which includes hosting training sessions, job fairs, work placements and mock interviews.
We continuously work with local resident groups, Councillors, The Police and the local Council to ensure we maintain a positive relationship with local stakeholders. We support local schools in entrepreneurial events, careers talks, work experience, tours and competitions. Additionally, we aim to be an accessible, inclusive centre for all members of the community, working with local charities and accessibility groups to improve the centre’s accessibility for those with dementia, autism, those with hidden disabilities and physical disabilities.
We support numerous local charities and activities through our onsite community support fund 'Silverburn Cares', including schools events such as Dragons' Den competitions, educational events in our community garden, providing local foodbanks with regular food donations and supporting local fundraising events. In 2018 alone, we donated £11.5K to local good causes through Silverburn Cares.
Silverburn Cares is our way to give something back to our local community. It is our vision that our support acts as a catalyst for self-help, improvement and growth.
