Silverburn wins top award after incredible year

Silverburn, Scotland’s leading retail and leisure destination, has won The Glasgow Business Award for Best Performing Large Business. The award, sponsored by Virgin Money, tops an incredible year for Silverburn which opened a range of new stores including Zara, H Beauty, Bershka, HARIBO and King Pins Bowling.
EGG Lighting, the commercial lighting and electrical installation firm, won Most Outstanding Business after a string of major business wins. The company has helped hundreds of businesses achieve their energy saving and sustainability goals through innovative lighting solutions.
This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Professor Sir Jim McDonald GBE, from University of Strathclyde, who retired earlier this summer after 40 years with the organisation. Professor Sir Jim is an unstoppable force whose visionary leadership, boundless energy, and lifelong dedication have propelled Glasgow to global prominence as a city of innovation, ambition, and excellence.
The Glasgow Business Awards were established in 1997 and have taken place annually since, breaking only for the pandemic. The event has grown significantly over the years to become the champion of major achievements and business success in the city, becoming a highly sought-after highlight for Glasgow’s business community.
Comedian Fred MacAulay hosted the event once again, entertaining 700 guests at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central, where 17 awards were presented.
Richard Muir, Deputy Chief Executive, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said: “The 2025 Glasgow Business Awards have once again showcased the incredible talent, innovation, and resilience within our business community.
“Thank you to Virgin Money, our event partner, to each of our category sponsors, and to The Herald and Glasgow Times for joining us as media partners.
“We are proud to celebrate the achievements of all our winners, particularly those leading the charge in sustainability, innovation, and entrepreneurship. These businesses are not only contributing to Glasgow’s economy but, as our judges found, are setting the standard for excellence on a national and international stage.”
David Henderson, Head of Strategic Finance, West of Scotland, Virgin Money said:
“It was a real privilege for Virgin Money to be able to play our part in recognising the achievements of such a diverse range of organisations who have driven the success of the city over the last year.
“Congratulations to all the finalists and winners for the contributions you have made to the local community and our economy, you should be justifiably proud of all you have achieved.”
